1. TOURISM

The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is one of the most developed tourist regions in Croatia, known as the Kvarner. Tourism has over 160 years of development tradition since the appearance of the first hotel in Opatija. The Kvarner is an ecologically clean area, with a rich cultural and historical heritage, with great tourist programmes and opportunities for an active holiday. Tourists have at their disposal more than 170,000 permanent beds in the County.

In 2017, nearly 15 million overnight stays have been achieved, which ranks Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in the high third place according to the number of total overnight stays in the Republic of Croatia.

2. INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION

The processing industry is one of the most important sectors of the economy in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (oil processing, shipbuilding activity), and the value of sold industrial products in 2016 was more than HRK 12.3 billion, thus ranking the County 2nd according to proportion of the value of sales of industrial products at the level of the Republic of Croatia, after the City of Zagreb.

3. DEVELOPMENT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN ENTREPRENEURIAL AREAS

The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County hosts the largest business and commercial area in the Republic of Croatia – the industrial zone Bakar, covering an area of 500 ha, with 170 businesses that employ a total of 4,000 people.

In the area of the County operates also a series of small entrepreneurial zones, forming the backbone of the development of the economy at local level.
